SwimZip Fan Friday: Introducing Grayson!

Happy SwimZip Fan Friday everyone! Here is our SwimZip Fan of Week Grayson!!! Grayson is 2 years old!! He loves swimming, hockey, edamame & fruit smoothies!

Grayson's dad is a hockey player so this was taken at a hotel in San Antonio Texas in the super hot sun!!

Grayson's family goes back to Canada for the off-season and G wears his SwimZip almost everyday in the backyard.

Grayson's sweet mama, Lise, was diagnosed with skin cancer when she was 7 months pregnant with him so sun safety is very important to her. She wishes she could tell every young person out there that "the perfect tan' is NOT worth it!" She says, "Sun safety starts young so I am already teaching my boys how to avoid the dangerous rays! Grayson knows he's not playing outside without his sunscreen & Swim Zip on! Our Hang Ten is so comfortable & lightweight! I give it an A+ for being fuss free! Just one zip and its on... I don't have to tug it over my little guy's head so he loves it too!"
She adds, "Thank you for creating an awesome product to help me feel confident in letting my son spend time in the sun safely!"

SwimZip starting off the week with a "Manic Monday" Outfit of the Day!

1. SwimZip Outfit of the Day #ootd

Even though I my sweet little guy prefers to be in comfy clothes 99% of the time, sometimes a mama just wants to dress her boy up!  So for SwimZip's #OOTD here is one of my favorite "Fancy Man" outfits!

1. Nothing says, "Fancy," more than suspenders...am I right?  These orange suspenders by Liv & Lily are to die for!  Liv & Lily don't just stop at suspenders, they have some of the most precious accessories for boys and girls, its worth taking a look.
2. If you are bringing out the suspenders, you might as well bring out the bow tie with it!  This awesome bow tie by Babies and Bows is super easy to put on (no tying needed) and looks super adorable!
3. Nothing too special about this shirt but its a good oxford shirt to have on hand and goes with anything.   
4. You can never go wrong with a good pair of Hide and Squeak's!  We love to squeak around in our navy, red and white pair!
5. A staple in my babes wardrobe are Khakis!  We wear them all the time, no matter the occasion.
6. I am still obsessed with the SwimZip fedora!!  I know I may seem bias, but my son loves this hat!  It is stylish, functional and totally affordable!

Kansas City has been raining non stop!  I barely remembered what the sun looked like until yesterday, when it finally came out and was the perfect day!  So of course on the perfect June day, you need the perfect outfit!  

1. One of my favorite things about SwimZip  that they can function as swimwear (of course) or as a layering piece, like we did here!  Putting our adorable Hang 10 over a fun graphic tee.

How Can We Keep Our Kids Safe?

I was on the Skin Cancer Foundation website and found this Q&A with Michele Green, MD and wanted to share it with everyone!  Here are some of my tips Dr. Green gave from the Q&A:

• The sun is strongest from 10 AM to 4 PM, so it is best to concentrate most outdoor activities before and after these hours.
• Encourage your children to seek shade whenever possible under a densely leafed tree, a sun umbrella, a building, or a canopy — any shaded area can offer some protection.
• Clothing is, in fact, considered the best single form of sun protection by many experts.

• Encourage your children to wear a broad-brimmed hat. A hat with a brim of at least 3” all the way around is best, but even a baseball hat is better than no hat! UV-blocking sunglasses will help protect your children’s eyes from UV rays, which can lead to eye diseases
• Remind your children to apply sunscreen early and often. I recommend a water-resistant sunscreen with a sun protection factor (SPF) of 50 and broad spectrum (UVA/UVB) protection.
• Children should apply one ounce of sunscreen to the face and body a full 30 minutes before going outside, and reapply every two hours or immediately after swimming or sweating heavily.

Minnesota Becomes the 8th State to Ban Indoor Tanning for Teens!

It is old news that indoor tanning systems are bad for your health, but it is new news that states are starting to take action!  Minnesota just became the 8th state to ban indoor tanning for teens, behind Vermont, California, Illinois, Oregon, Nevada, Texas and Washington. On May 23, Governor Mark Dayton Signed HF2402 into law and will be effective August 1st.  The three main parts of the this law are 1) No one under the age of 18 can use a commercial indoor tanning facility in the state, 2) All tanning facilities must prominently display a sign to that effect and 3) Tanning facility owners or operators who violate the law are subject to a misdemeanor penalty as determined by the judge.  To read more about this here is an article I found!  Let me know what you all think!  Another way to stay safe besides avoiding tanning beds is to have UV protective swimwear, so please check out SwimZip, here is our website
