SwimZip Outfit of the Day #OOTD

I feel like this SwimZip #OOTD is my sons essentials!  He is always sporting these items (or something similar) everyday.

1. One thing I love about SwimZip is that all the products are versatile.  Yes, a cover up can be used as a cover up and a UPF suit as a UPF suit, but theses items can also be used as layering pieces to go with anything!  Here I put our amazingly soft Sand Monster UV Cover UP as a sort of light weight jacket over a fun graphic tea...see what I'm saying, "versatile!"
2. I have many loves in this world but I think one of the greatest is a graphic tee!  I don't know why but they are irresistible to me...actually I know why, look how cute this is.  My Little Love Clothing  is home to some of my favorite graphic tees for my babe, including this "Young Souls Run Free" one!  Like I said, "irresistible."
3. Freshly Picked can do no wrong!  My little guy has a couple pairs of the these perfect moccasins and I can pair them with anything.  Featured today are the Chocolate mods.
4. If it were socially acceptable for me to wear Little Adi + Co bummies I would everyday!  But instead I put them on my kid every chance I get.  Not only are these bummies super hype and camo but also on SALE (gasp!)!
5. Not only an oldie but a goodie, Dr. Seuss is still our families go to books, right up there with any of the Arthur series.  Check your local book store or go to Amazon and pick up a copy (if you don't already have one), you won't regret it!

Its Friday...you know what that means, Happy Fan Friday. Introducing 9 month old, Mason! This precious picture with Mason and his dad, Michael, was taken by Mason's sweet mama, Kelly, while enjoying a beautiful day in Chesapeake Bay, Deltaville, VA. Kelly said, "When planning for the trip, I was already concerned about sunlight on my baby's fresh skin but for me, it hit a little more home when picking out proper attire. Lupus runs direct in my family and my moms side has suffered for years. My grandmother had had lupus since she was in her 20's and she is now in her 80's. I wanted to make sure that Mason was well protected and make sure that I was being the best mom and keeping him safe. I came across SwimZip and was so happy! It is lightweight so it wasn't hot and best of all, it's precious! Mason was stylish and comfortable and most importantly, he was safe, and you can not put a price on that. This past weekend, I burned even after applying sunscreen three times. Mason was perfect  guess it's time for me to order some SwimZip for myself!"

SwimZip Outfit of the Day #OOTD

The countdown continues for baby #2!  Today SwimZip's #OOTD is dedicated to all the sweet newborns!  I cannot tell you how excited, overjoyed, and in love I am with the fact that my family will be introducing another member to the family in September!  I cannot wait for my 2 year old to be a big brother and for my husband and me to be parents to 2 amazing boys!  So with any new baby comes all things cute and little and I wanted to share some of my faves!

1. Ive said it before and I'll say (type) it again, I love baby TOMS and their "One for One" business plan!  I cannot wait to put these red baby TOMS on my new little guy!  The best part is not only are you receiving a pair of adorable shoes for your kiddo but also giving a pair of shoes to a person in need, so great. 
2. The only thing that makes this onsie even cuter is that my 2 year old has a matching shirt that says "Big!"  Cannot wait to snag a pick of my 2 boys in their Big & Little shirts by Little Faces. 
3. In our house it is no surprise that we are all about sun protection!  So you bet my new babe will be rocking his SwimZip Beach Boy Hat while he is outside, no matter what!
4. Sticky Bellies is genius!  It is the best way to showcase big moments in you and your babies lives.  Sticky Bellies have stickers to document your pregnancy and every milestone in your little one's life from holidays, birthdays, and first steps.  This one featured here is called the "Milestone Sticker Set For Boys or Girls". (Also, what a great gift idea!)
5. This product by California Baby is incredible!  All of their product are all organic (how great is that!).  This is the eczema cream  and I also love their sunscreen! 
6. My 2 year old loves his Baby Jack Blanket so I am assuming the new baby will love his too!  These blankets are super soft and come have accent ribbon tabs for sensory play!  Cannot wait to cuddle with my 2 boys and their Baby Jack Blankets.

Just because my kiddo is a boy and I am expecting another, doesn't mean I can't look at adorable baby girl clothes!  I am in love with this SwimZip All Girl inspired #OOTD

1. If I had a baby girl, she would be rocking the high pony fountain hair with a bow everyday!  I love these bows by Mark It with a Q, the bows are just the right six a and have great patterns and prints on them.  We are showing the Gray Floral Bow and a purple and berry striped bow. 
2. Every little girl needs a ruffle cover up...just like a little black dress, it's a necessity!  This SwimZip Pretty Princess Towel is comfy, cute and keeps your skin safe from the sun, what more could you want?
3. Etsy shops have the cutest accessories for babies!  Whether you need suspenders, bows, bow ties, headbands, you name it, someone makes it (and makes it fabulous!).  This precious Etsy shop, Little Highbury makes amazing headbands for little girls, and has great size and quantity options.  The white and pink and white stripped add some extra flare and are made out of organic cotton!
4. Last, but certainly not least is this AMAZING outfit by Taylor Joelle!  If I ever have a daughter this is what she will come home from the hospital in, that's how much I love it!  This Triangle Baby Outfit comes in 3 sizes and looks great with everything (as you can see)!

This is precious Chloe and she is 7 months old! This was her first trip to the beach in Port Arkansas rocking her Sassy Surfer SwimZip suit. Even though she is only 2 years old, she is already an exotic traveler, as you can see by this precious photo of Cora rocking her SwimZip Flower Power suit in St. John, USVI (I can't get over those amazing blue eyes!). Her sweet mama, Kate, says that Cora LOVES to swim and play outside! We live in TX and our pool is in full sun so we have to be very careful!"

SwimZip Fan Friday: Introducing Grayson!

Happy SwimZip Fan Friday everyone! Here is our SwimZip Fan of Week Grayson!!! Grayson is 2 years old!! He loves swimming, hockey, edamame & fruit smoothies!

Grayson's dad is a hockey player so this was taken at a hotel in San Antonio Texas in the super hot sun!!

Grayson's family goes back to Canada for the off-season and G wears his SwimZip almost everyday in the backyard.

Grayson's sweet mama, Lise, was diagnosed with skin cancer when she was 7 months pregnant with him so sun safety is very important to her. She wishes she could tell every young person out there that "the perfect tan' is NOT worth it!" She says, "Sun safety starts young so I am already teaching my boys how to avoid the dangerous rays! Grayson knows he's not playing outside without his sunscreen & Swim Zip on! Our Hang Ten is so comfortable & lightweight! I give it an A+ for being fuss free! Just one zip and its on... I don't have to tug it over my little guy's head so he loves it too!"

Even though I my sweet little guy prefers to be in comfy clothes 99% of the time, sometimes a mama just wants to dress her boy up!  So for SwimZip's #OOTD here is one of my favorite "Fancy Man" outfits!

1. Nothing says, "Fancy," more than suspenders...am I right?  These orange suspenders by Liv & Lily are to die for!  Liv & Lily don't just stop at suspenders, they have some of the most precious accessories for boys and girls, its worth taking a look.
2. If you are bringing out the suspenders, you might as well bring out the bow tie with it!  This awesome bow tie by Babies and Bows is super easy to put on (no tying needed) and looks super adorable!
3. Nothing too special about this shirt but its a good oxford shirt to have on hand and goes with anything.   
4. You can never go wrong with a good pair of Hide and Squeak's!  We love to squeak around in our navy, red and white pair!
5. A staple in my babes wardrobe are Khakis!  We wear them all the time, no matter the occasion.
6. I am still obsessed with the SwimZip fedora!!  I know I may seem bias, but my son loves this hat!  It is stylish, functional and totally affordable!

Kansas City has been raining non stop!  I barely remembered what the sun looked like until yesterday, when it finally came out and was the perfect day!  So of course on the perfect June day, you need the perfect outfit!  

1. One of my favorite things about SwimZip  that they can function as swimwear (of course) or as a layering piece, like we did here!  Putting our adorable Hang 10 over a fun graphic tee.

How Can We Keep Our Kids Safe?

I was on the Skin Cancer Foundation website and found this Q&A with Michele Green, MD and wanted to share it with everyone!  Here are some of my tips Dr. Green gave from the Q&A:

• The sun is strongest from 10 AM to 4 PM, so it is best to concentrate most outdoor activities before and after these hours.
• Encourage your children to seek shade whenever possible under a densely leafed tree, a sun umbrella, a building, or a canopy — any shaded area can offer some protection.
• Clothing is, in fact, considered the best single form of sun protection by many experts.

• Encourage your children to wear a broad-brimmed hat. A hat with a brim of at least 3” all the way around is best, but even a baseball hat is better than no hat! UV-blocking sunglasses will help protect your children’s eyes from UV rays, which can lead to eye diseases
• Remind your children to apply sunscreen early and often. I recommend a water-resistant sunscreen with a sun protection factor (SPF) of 50 and broad spectrum (UVA/UVB) protection.
• Children should apply one ounce of sunscreen to the face and body a full 30 minutes before going outside, and reapply every two hours or immediately after swimming or sweating heavily.

Minnesota Becomes the 8th State to Ban Indoor Tanning for Teens!

It is old news that indoor tanning systems are bad for your health, but it is new news that states are starting to take action!  Minnesota just became the 8th state to ban indoor tanning for teens, behind Vermont, California, Illinois, Oregon, Nevada, Texas and Washington. On May 23, Governor Mark Dayton Signed HF2402 into law and will be effective August 1st.  The three main parts of the this law are 1) No one under the age of 18 can use a commercial indoor tanning facility in the state, 2) All tanning facilities must prominently display a sign to that effect and 3) Tanning facility owners or operators who violate the law are subject to a misdemeanor penalty as determined by the judge.  To read more about this here is an article I found!  Let me know what you all think!  Another way to stay safe besides avoiding tanning beds is to have UV protective swimwear, so please check out SwimZip, here is our website 

Meet Our New Intern

Hey it's me, Ali!  I am the new SwimZip intern!  Like many people, I heard of SwimZip through Shark Tank and was blown away by the product and the story behind the product.  I was so excited to learn that SwimZip headquarters was based in my hometown and on a whim emailed SwimZip to see if they would need an intern.  Considering I get star struck when I see local weatherman, you can only imagine what I did when I received an email from Betsy, the founder of SwimZip, herself...Let's just say it's all I talked about for 2 weeks straight.  After communicating with Betsy back and forth through email and then meeting up when I came home for break from school, I was hired as a SwimZip intern!  I have been so lucky to get to work one on one with Betsy.  For the first couple months of my internship we had to communicate via text and email while I was away at college  But now I am back home for the summer and we have already been able to create even more fun SwimZip images and ideas!  Cannot wait to learn so much from this amazing company and be able to interact with you all!

SwimZip Swimwear Shark Tank Article Appears in Topeka Capital Journal

SwimZip Swimwear Founders, Betsy Johnson and Berry Wanless, grew up in Topeka, Kansas.  So they were super excited to see a story in their hometown newspaper, The Topeka Capital Journal, featuring a story about their upcoming appearance on Shark Tank:

"A desire to get more exposure for their company has landed siblings with Topeka ties on ABC’s “Shark Tank” this Friday to pitch their sun-protective clothing line for children. …. 

Although Johnson and Wanless weren’t able to say much about their episode, which airs at 8 p.m. Friday, they both agreed they were nervous when they walked into the “tank.” Johnson said panelist Kevin O’Leary was one of the more intimidating “sharks,” but she and Wanless said all of the panelists were intimidating in their own way.

“I would get nervous for people on the show when I would watch it at home, so it was that times 100 when I went in there,” Johnson said."

Mompreneur Swims with the Sharks on ABC’s “Shark Tank”

Kansas City, Kansas - January 10, 2014 – SwimZip "Mompreneur", Betsy Johnson, gets to pitch her kids’ sun protective clothing brand, SwimZip, to four of the toughest critics in the business – the sharks of ABC’s “Shark Tank”. The show, scheduled to appear on January 24, features mom and business owner Johnson trying to sell part of her business to investor experts.  Johnson is President SwimZip, a stylish sun protection swimwear line.

Johnson has had the entrepreneurial itch since she was a teenager, so matching wits with the Sharks was a dream come true.  The Sharks include celebrity investors Mark Cuban, Barbara Corcoran, Lori Greiner, Robert Herjavec, Daymond John, and Kevin O’Leary.

“The Sharks on Shark Tank are known for the business savvy and critical eye for the bottom line,” says Johnson. “Getting selected for the show is a huge compliment and means SwimZip is headed in the right direction.”

While Johnson heads SwimZip, she also is a full time mom.  Trying to juggle parenting and running a business takes every waking hour.

“Being a Mompreneur takes literally everything I have – but I totally love it,” says Johnson.  “And being a mom, I feel extremely proud to be running a business that actually keeps kids healthy and may save their lives on day.”

SwimZip’s sun protection clothing and swimwear blocks over 98% of UVA and UVB rays.  Too much exposure to UV rays has been linked directly to skin cancer later in life.  Johnson knows that all too well having had a basil carcinoma removed when she was 26 years old.

"The Sharks are all about the money, but in the case of SwimZip, I have a real personal connection and passion about our products.  We have the best kids sun protective swimwear because I know firsthand the dangers of too much sun exposure at the beach and pool,” says Johnson.
